Wayoga Expedition started in the beginning of 2019 as a “yoga charity fundraising mission”. The project was created to unite people through yoga.
During 3 months we lived and traveled in our campervan in the South of Europe, while sharing donation-based yoga classes along our way, in order to raise funds for Walkabout Foundation.
After 3 months of traveling (starting in Ardèche to Santiago de Compostela), we crossed more than 7 regions, 4000 kms, shared more than 80 donation-based yoga classes with more than 700 participants and managed to raise 2115€, or the equal of 9 life-changing wheelchairs for people in need. This money will be used to help people with mobility disabilities in the developing world, by providing wheelchairs, rehabilitation, and founding research.
We believe that bringing people together for charity, while enjoying a mindful moment, generates a positive movement. Yoga is a tool for uniting forces and sharing love. The original word Yog(a) means “union” of the mind, body, and soul. We looked for the union of everyone we met along our way.
We are very grateful to all participants and the people who support us and who made this possible. There is no better way to share yoga than by giving back.
Walkabout Foundation restores dignity, freedom and independence by providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation in the developing world and funding research to find a cure for paralysis.
Whilst our scientists work incessantly to find a cure for paralysis, we have made it our mission to improve the quality of life for people with mobility disabilities through the provision of wheelchairs and rehabilitation.
This 3-pronged approach means that we tackle the issue from all angles, ensuring that we create a sustainable model that provides short, medium and long-term solutions.

So, why did we create this project? At the beginning of 2019 we experienced the fear of Marco getting paralyzed because of a spinal injury. Thanks to a successful operation Marco can walk again and is recovering step by step. This had a big impact on us and we wanted to commit ourselves to people who are less fortunate
It made us realize that the same situation on the other side of the world would have had a completely different outcome. That’s why Walkabout Foundation means a lot to us, helping people with mobility disabilities who don’t have the same medical support to rely on as we do.
Secondly, the operation could have been avoided if Marco would have been aware of the condition of his back. One of the best ways of working on a healthy spinal condition is through proper exercises, like yoga. Yoga is a perfect therapy to heal, to relieve pain, and even to avoid surgery.
